Cork is a remarkable renewable natural resource: it's the bark of the cork oak tree, and the regular harvesting of the bark (every 10 to 12 years) actually contributes to the tree's health. Cork oak trees continue to flourish with regular harvesting, and have an average lifespan of 150 to 200 years.
