Cork is a remarkable renewable natural resource: it's the bark of the Cork Oak tree, and the regular harvesting (every 10 to 12 years) of the bark actually contributes to the tree's health. Cork Oak trees continue to flourish with regular harvesting, and have an average lifespan of 150 to 200 years.
